Featured City:
Utica, IL

Wednesday, April 25 :    This morning we board our coach for our drive to Utica, IL. We arrive this afternoon in Starved Rock State Park at the Lodge where we’ll get checked in and you’ll have time to freshen up before dinner.  You might want to take a walk on the trails around the Lodge before the evening functions. Then it’s time to depart the lodge in our Trolley and travel to August Hill Winery for appetizers and a flight of wine.  In 2000, August Hill Winery was founded by Sean Ginocchio and Mark and Teri Wenzel. Although Sean is no longer involved in the daily operations, Sean's wife, Tara, continues to create her inspiring paintings that are a part of their labels, marketing materials, and tasting room gallery. Mark and Teri Wenzel continue to operate the vineyard and winery as well as the August Hill Winery Tasting Room in historic downtown Utica. At the tasting room, visitors can enjoy August Hill Wines and other handcrafted creations, including paintings, sculpture, glass art, and more from a select group of featured artists. After August Hill we make our way to The Lone Buffalo in Ottawa for entrees paired with a flight of beer. There will also be a tour of the microbrewery, Tangled Roots Brewing Company.  The Lone Buffalo was created to be a restaurant and a brewery under one roof with one goal: to serve good food and beer in a comfortable atmosphere. They believe in the idea of “slow food” and want their guests to savor what they offer. Chef Brok and his brigade use fresh products from their own farm and from other local farmers and producers. Everything on the menu is freshly cooked, every day, and varies with the seasons. Their beer is crafted, using traditional methods and equipment, from the best malts and hops available – including some from their own farm. Taking care not to get in the way of the complex flavors of the simple ingredients in their food and beer.  Following dinner, we’re off for Starved Rock Lodge where you’ll enjoy a delicious dessert and a flight of drinks.

Thursday, April 26 :    Breakfast is included here at the Lodge. The morning is free to take a walk & enjoy the beauty of Starved Rock State Park before we depart for home.  After lunch & rest stops on our own we return home by late afternoon.
